Kaspars Putniņš has been the conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir since 1992 although he regularly appears as a guest conductor with leading professional European choirs – this time it’s Cappella Amsterdam’s honour.
Putniņš presents a wider perspective of choral music in the Baltic countries, ranging from the end of 19th century to the modern day. The early music represents the late Romantic style, rather similarly to that seen in it’s Northern neighbouring countries. This repertoire forms the backbone of Baltic musical culture, although is practically unknown outside this region. In addition, music from second half of the 20th century will include Arvo Pärt and Pēteris Vasks, accompanied by some less well know composers.
